Why D4?
When two D20s love each other very much, they make a D4. But in all seriousness…
For us, the D4 is an opportunity for players to risk it all, to pursue devils’ bargains, to reach the dramatic heights that TTRPGs can provide. All encompassed in a single moment, be it a silly endeavour we can all laugh along with, or a tense scene that can change the entire dynamic of the campaign.
A lot of times we’ll use the D4 to ramp up the stakes of the journey, a curveball of sorts to keep both the players and the GMs on the edge of our seats. An indication that something is afoot or is about to go in a whole new direction. Other times, it’s simply a means to entertain spontaneous ideas that arise.
And if the rolls can bring our players trepidation, all the better.
